Women’s volleyball beats San Jose at SLO

Sacramento State beats San Jose State in its first game of this weekend’s tournament at San Luis Obispo with a final score of 3-2 (24-25, 25-18, 25-15, 28-30, 15-3).

The first set was won by San Jose state with a close score of 23-25. This set, the Hornet’s hit .103, the lowest hitting percentage of the night’s game. The team had a total of 9 kills and 6 errors.  

The second set was victorious for the Hornets ending with a score of 25-18. The Hornet’s had 14 kills, their second highest amount of kills for the night. This set had the Hornet’s hitting .393, their best of all five sets.

The third set was another win for the Hornets ending with the score 25-15. The Hornets hit their second best of the night at .258 and had a total of 13 kills.  

The fourth set was a win for San Jose State at 28-30. The Hornets had their highest amount of errors in this set, resulting in a total of 8 errors for the set. The team hit .143 in this set and had 16 kills, their highest kills for the night’s match.  

The last set of the match was a quick victory for the Hornets with a score of 15-3. The team hit .167 with only three errors.

Head Coach Ruben Volta stated that after the first set the team improved their serving and that is what helped them win.

“We started passing better so [it] made a big difference for our offense,” Volta said.

The Hornets have two more games tomorrow, 10 a.m. against Bakersfield and 7 p.m. against host Cal Poly.
