Junior Rockelle Sande tying her career best finish of 4th place and total score of 225 was not enough to prevent a round three collapse for the Women’s Golf team.

After being in 8th place the first two rounds of shooting a 316 and 312, the team faltered in round three by shooting a 325 and falling 5 spots in the overall rankings. Other than Sande, the Hornets did not have a single player finish in the top 50.

Sande started day two in second place after shooting a 75 in round one and 71 in round two and was +2 over par in those 2 rounds. A quadruple bogey on No. 6 ended what was otherwise a consistent round three, with 12 pars, 4 bogeys and 1 birdie for the other 17 holes.

Sophomore Chole Bartek finished with the second best score for the Hornets, by shooting a 84-78-79-241 card for the tournament. She tied for 53rd place. Freshman Katie Dunway had a strong opening round of 77, but faltered in round two and three with a score of 82 and 86. She tied for 66th place.

Senior Sagee Palavivatana, the team’s No.1  going into the tournament, was unable to break 80 in any of the three rounds. She shot 83-81-82-246 for the tournament and tied for 70th. Senior Nicollete Bondura rounded out the Hornets lineup by shooting 81-82-85-248 for the tournament and tied for 74th.

San Jose State won the tournament by 24 strokes over second place New Mexico State. Megan Osland of San Jose State similarly dominated the tournament, taking first place by 7 strokes.

Sacramento State will play next starting Oct. 6th at the Fresno State Lexus Classic .
