OneCard: more than a bad photo

Sacramento State ID cards are more than just a bad photo, they are also a student’s key to services and money saving opportunities.

According to the OneCard website, students can use their OneCard as a library card, a bus pass and even an ATM card if they bank with Wells Fargo.

“I mostly use my OneCard for public transportation,” said senior communications major Michael Lyles. “It’s a huge help.”

In addition to on-campus privileges, OneCard holders can get off-campus discounts at participating businesses in entertainment and health, as well as on pet supplies and services such as grooming.

Retailers like the Regal Entertainment Group, Smile Time Dental and Kings Court Pet Resort all offer discounts and/or free services for OneCard holders. Even some automotive repair shops offer discounts to Sac State Students such as 10 percent off at Midas on Arden Way and 15 percent off on oil changes at AutoMedics on Fair Oaks Blvd.

“I have yet to use my OneCard,” said Quany Wright, a religious studies major. “But I would love discounts on cupcakes and car repairs, especially car repairs.”

Students often find themselves eating fast food because it is cheap, however, the OneCard offers discounts at great eateries as well.

There are many places that offer discounts to students when they show their OneCard. Cupcake Craving on Arden Way and French Po-Boys One on 65th St. and Broadway –across from Starbucks– both offer up to 15 percent off your purchase.

A nice destination, which offers a 10 percent discount is Bento Box, right across from the University and 65th street light rail station.

The Thai House Restaurant, located in Loehman’s Plaza was voted best Thai in Sacramento in 2013 by KCRA 3’s A-List. The Thai House offers discounts for students with 10 percent off the entire bill.

“We’ve been here for about five years,” said staff member Cydney Hoang. “We get about 10 to 20 people per week that use the Sac State OneCard discount.”

College is expensive enough, lighten the load a little with your Sac State OneCard.
