After winning its first two matches of the season on Saturday, the Sacramento State  sand volleyball team traveled to Stockton for two more matches Sunday against the University of the Pacific and Stanford.

The Hornets were unable to come up with a victory as they fell 0-5 to Pacific and 2-3 against Stanford. After falling to 0-6 to start the year, Sac State had made some lineup changes to four of the five pairings in Saturday’s matches. After winning both on Saturday, the Hornets stayed with those same lineups on Sunday.

In the match against Pacific, Sac State only had one pairing that went three sets. Alicja Wilk and Kimmy Whitson of Pacific defeated Madeline Cannon and Sloan Lovett in the No.2 pairing, 21-16, 15-21, 15-10.

All other matches resulted in victories for Pacific in straight sets. In the No.1 matchup, Lexi Elman and Kat Schulz of Pacific defeated Kayla Beal and Katie Aprile, 22-20, 21-14. This was the only match Beal and Aprile lost all weekend. In the No.3 pairings, Mia Feiner and Gillian Howard of Pacific defeated Lauren Aikels and Chelcy Motes, 21-10, 21-9.

In the No.4.matchup Katy Tagart and Megan Birch defeated the Hornets Morgan Stanley / Kendall LaVine, 21-11, 21-10.

The match against the Cardinal was much more competitive as Sac State was able to pull out a couple of wins from the duos of Beal and Aprile, and Cannon and Lovett. Beal and Aprile won 25-23, 21-19, defeating Brittany Howard and Carly Wopat. Cannon and Lovett defeated Jordan Burgess and Lauren Birks 25-23, 15-21, 18-16.

All of the Hornets’ losses came in straight sets.
