Biking: Get rolling on local trails

Spring is well underway and summer is peaking around the corner, meaning more and more bikes will be zooming around on the hottest trails.
The Northern California and Sacramento area have bike trails for regular cyclist and weekend leisure cyclists to enjoy.
Here are a few trails to get enthusiasts started this biking season.
Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail aka The American River Bike Trail
Length: 32 miles
Difficulty: 5/5
The Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail is recognized as one of the top bike trails in the nation thanks to the many notable landmarks and attractions. Between Sacramento and Folsom, the trail passes through places like: Sutter’s Landing Park, River Bend Park, the Nimbus Fish Hatchery and lakes Natoma and Folsom.
Sacramento to Davis Trail
Length: 14 miles
Difficulty: 3/5
This trail begins at the Tower Bridge located on the East side of the Sacramento River and ends at the Amtrak Station in Davis on 3rd Street. This trail leads you into the heart of the “Bike Capital of the U.S.” Riders will find many things to do during their rest stop in Davis.
Darrington/Salmon Falls Trail
Length: 15.6 miles
Difficulty: “4 bikes”
The Darrington/Salmon Falls Trail is located near El Dorado Hills, Calif. The trail begins off of salmon Falls Road next to the Salmon Falls bridge. While riders make their way through the rugged terrain, they can also catch a nice lake view along the way.
Fleming Meadow Loop
Length: 6.5 miles
Difficulty: 4/5
Fleming Meadow Loop trail, also known as “8 Loop,” is located in Placerville, Calif. This trail is full of loads of climbing that lead to fun downhills throughout the trail. Riders can add an extra mile to their journeys by starting at the fire-road entrance near Jenkins Lake.
West Ravine Trail
Length: 1.9 miles
Difficulty: 2.5/5
West Ravine Trail is can be found in Auburn Lake Trail, Calif. Most of this trail is fire road width with a few singletrack lines thrown in the mix. Bikers can find this trail by heading up to West Ridge from Cronan Ranch Road and keeping right at the top.
