Men’s tennis squares up for Sunday’s match against UC Davis

The Sacramento State men’s tennis team will take the court this Sunday against UC Davis, a match the Hornets are confident and prepared for.

The Hornets are coming off a trouncing they laid at the hands of UC Riverside in which they won 7-0. Junior Tom Miller has full faith that his team can get the job done.

“I back my team. I got every expectation that we are going to give it our best shot,” Miller said. “If we do that, we will put ourselves in a really good position to win.”

Since 1992, the Hornets are 16-6 against the Aggies, including 8-2 at home. Sac State has won the past seven meetings dating back to 2007.

The only meeting the Hornets and Aggies had last year resulted in a win for the Hornets, 4-3. Sac State has got the best of Davis in the past few meetings, but that is not stopping assistant coach Kevin Kurtz from proceeding with caution.

Kurtz said the team is working to get back to full strength after a few injuries in the beginning of the season.

“If they have a chance to get us, it’s right now,” Kurtz said. “I think our guys are going to give it 100 percent.”

The Hornets are still carrying momentum from their win over UC Riverside, despite their injuries. Junior Roy Brandys said he feels they are going to need a team effort to get the win this Sunday.

“It’s probably going to be a tough one,” Brandys said. “It’s always tough against Davis.”

The Hornets take on the Aggies Sunday, Feb. 16 at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
