Men’s golf finishes 10th behind strong third round finishes

Sacramento State golfers’ Robert Parden and Cody Bates shot under par third rounds leading the Hornets to a 10th place finish at the Bill Cullum Invitational Tuesday in Simi Valley, Calif.

Sac State as a team finished the weekend with a 54-hole total 7-over-par, 292-298-289, 879. Freshmen Bates and Parden both finished the third round with a 68 and 71 respectively.

Bates 68 was a career low so far at Sac State. He also bettered his score by four strokes as he finished with a 1-under-par, 71-76-68, 215 finishing tied for 14th place.

Parden shot a 1-under-par final round. Parden found himself tied for 50th place with a 7-over-par, 75-77-71, 223.

The Saratoga, Calif. native, eagled once, had five birdies, 10 bogies and double bogied twice this weekend.

Junior golfers Owen Taylor and Luke Kristo both had solid finishes to the weekend with a final round score of 74 and 76. Taylor had a 4-over-par, 73-71-76, 220.

Kristo had the lowest finish in standings for the Hornets finishing in 67th place. Kristo did improve his third round score by three strokes as he birdied two out of the last five holes.

Senior golfer Jordan Swanson had a poor third round finishing with a 79, 7-over-par round.

The senior did finish with a 10-over-par, 73-74-79 and tied in 60th place.

Sac State have finished the fall season and will resume in the spring.
