Staff pick: Plum Bakery and Cafe

Hope Roberts

Feeling at home comes with ease when visiting The Plum Bakery & Cafe. The cafe’s white picket fence welcomes those walking by, encouraging potential customers to enter. Personally, it’s the vegan bakery with a mellow atmosphere that compels me to stay.

With several gluten-free and vegan-friendly desserts, picking just one is hard for me. Indulging in a Pumpkin Cutie Pie always brightens my day, their vanilla filling making them taste like an Oreo with hints of pumpkin.

Not only does The Plum Bakery & Cafe have a diverse assortment of desserts, but it serves lunch with plenty of vegetarian-friendly options, as well. Their sandwiches are available with rice bread, providing a gluten-free lunch option for Celiacs. Soft tortilla hummus wraps are a satisfying vegan afternoon meal offered here, the hummus a refreshing alternative to peanut butter, supplying me with energy to get through the day. Friends of mine enjoy the veggie pasta for its light, but filling, nature, and order gluten-free Mac and Cheese when craving a flavorful heavier dish.

Workers greet customers with friendly smiles, and the intimacy of the cafe allows a more personal dining experience.

The Plum Bakery & Cafe is located at 2315 K St. in midtown Sacramento. Its hours are Monday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
