The Sacramento State men’s golf team finished second after blowing a 10-stroke lead going into the third round at the Braveheart Classic Tuesday at the Oak Valley Golf Club.

The Hornets entered the third round with the huge lead and in position to win the tournament, but a poor team performance put them at nine-over for the round, while Cal State Fullerton shot two-under and came back to win.

Despite the final round collapse, Hornets’ sophomore Jordan Weir posted a 54-hole career best score of 212, which was good for third place at the tournament and his second top-three finish of the year.

Senior Cameron Rappleye shot a 213, which was good for seventh at the tournament and his third top-10 finish of the season.

Senior Ji Hwan Park from the University of San Francisco posted the best individual score of 210 and beat out Utah Valley University freshman Brayden Eriksen’s 211.

Even though they lost, the Hornets second place finish was still their best finish of the spring season.

The Hornets will look to shake off their collapse and rebound at the Winchester Classic in Auburn, Calif. The three-day tournament begins April 20.
