The Sacramento State men’s tennis team lost its fifth match of the season after losing 4-1 to the University of Nevada on Friday at the Lakeridge Tennis Club.

The Hornets came into the match with a far better singles record (17-23) than doubles record (5-16), but they looked like a more dominant doubles team against the Wolf Pack.

In singles, the Hornets were swept after junior Aliaksandr Malko, senior Javier Millan, freshman Sean Kolar and freshman Roy Brandys all lost. But Millan, Kolar and Brandys’ matches all went down to the wire with three sets.

The Hornets’ best singles player, freshman Marek Marksoo (5-1), did not get the chance to extend his four game winning streak because the Wolf Pack already had the four points needed to win and his match was not finished.

In doubles, the Hornets were led by freshman Tom Miller and Kolar, who won their match at No. 2 and Marksoo and Brandys, who won theirs at No. 3.

The non-conference match was the Wolfpack’s home opener and with the win, they moved to 5-4 on the season.

The Hornets fell to 2-5 on the season and they will look to rebound on the road against the University of Northern Colorado Friday.

It will be their second Big Sky Conference match of the season after winning their first meeting on Tuesday against Weber State University.
