The Sacramento State men’s tennis team won its fourth Big Sky Conference match in a row Friday as it shut down Northern Colorado University 7-0.

The Hornets quickly gained the lead by winning all three doubles matches against the Bears.

Jimmy Roberts and Joe DeGuzman took the Hornets’ first victory with an 8-1 win over Andre Lepine and Connor Buchanan in match No. 3.

Jason Smith and Holden Ching quickly matched Roberts and DeGuzman with a 8-3 win of their own in match No. 1 over the team of Calix Van Lier and Ryan Lane.

The duo of Marko Starcevic and Kiryl Harbatsiuk made it a clean sweep in the doubles matches with an 8-4 win in match No. 2 against Robbie Edwards and Travis Day.

In the singles matches, the strong play for Sac State continued as none of the Hornets lost more than three games in any set.

Starcevic started singles play with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Buchanan at match No.4.

The Hornet lead increased to 3-0 when Smith won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 over Edwards.

Ching defeated Lane of the Bears, 6-1, 6-3, at match No. 3.

The Hornets ended the match by sweeping the Bears with a 6-3, 6-3 win from Harbatsiuk, who is ranked as the No. 60 tennis player nationally, over Van Lier, a 6-1, 6-0 win by Roberts over Lepine and a 6-1, 6-1 decision by DeGuzman over Day.

The win was made more impressive with the fact that normal No. 1 player Anton Stryhas was held out of the lineup.
