Sacramento State’s women’s soccer team tied a long, hard fought match against Portland State on Sac State Senior Day to take third place in the Big Sky Conference playoff standings.

With the tie, Sac State’s women’s team goes to 3-2-2 in the Big Sky Conference.

The Hornets got off to a quick start in the first half by turning downfield into Portland State territory right off the opening draw.

Senior forward Kim Kemper, who played her final regular season game of her college career, led the Hornets in shots including one to the corner of the net, which was saved by the Portland State goalkeeper and another that sailed over the top crossbar.

The Hornets had another opportunity to score when Roberts set up senior forward Danielle Holloway who slid to save the pass but could not generate a shot.

The Hornets blocked two shots on a Portland State advance toward the end of the first half.

The Hornets had a number of close goals and shots in the second half, including a shot by senior forward Ashley Forbes, which hit the outside of the right goalpost. Forbes got another shot after the Hornets cleared the ball into the midfield line. Her was kicked from the right side and landed wide right.

Hornet sophomore midfielder Elece McBride had a quick shot, which sailed over the top of the goal late in the second half.

McBride also got the Hornets closest scoring opportunity in overtime when her second shot sailed over the post.

The Hornets had less chances in the second overtime when Portland State’s defense stiffened and the game ended in a 0-0 tie.

The Hornets still have a chance to make it to the playoffs If Idaho State loses or ties at home against Weber State Saturday.
