Hornets tame Bengals 2-0 in women’s soccer

Sacramento State’s women’s soccer team defeated Idaho State University2-0 Sunday afternoon in its sixth conference game of the season.

With the win the Hornets improve to 3-2-1 in the Big Sky Conference.

“We came out hard right away and never really took our foot off thegas,” head coach Randy Dedini said.

Junior midfielder Cori Shreve started off the Hornets’ first attackby getting a shot off on a Sac State corner kick. The Hornets got fivemore shots before, senior forward Kim Kemper scored her first goal ofthe season on a pass to the middle of the box from sophomore defenderShea Roberts.

“It was exciting to finally get it into the back of the net. I’ve hadso many chances,” Kemper said. “We all knew we had to win this game,so we were all on top of it.”

Sac State’s women’s soccer team kept Idaho State to three shots in thefirst half, while out shooting the Bengals by five. The women’s teamcontinued strong defense by keeping Idaho State to four shots in thesecond half.

The Hornets scored a second goal when senior midfielder KatelinHopping shot a free kick straight into the left corner of the netafter she was fouled by an Idaho State player.

Idaho State got two more shots before the end of the second half, butwere unable to score.

Next, the Hornets play Portland State in their last conference matchup before the Big Sky Tournament.
