College Democrats booth vandalized

On Wednesday, the College Democrats filed a police report after its booth was vandalized twice in the last week.

Early Monday morning, College Dems President Melissa Hurtado arrived at the booth to find papers everywhere, a cooler turned upside down and a note accusing the College Democrats of “Loving equality, but hating America.” When it happened again on Wednesday morning, Hurtado realized it was a serious matter. She and the rest of the club members were sad for the immaturity of those who vandalized the booth.

“Democrats do not hate America. We encourage students to come out and attend our meetings,” Hurtado said. Government major Robert Marcelis has been a member of the club for four years and he has never seen anything like this before. He thinks that the student body securities have a responsibility to protect the area.

“This is not an attack on the Democrat club, but on the whole student body” said Marcelis.

Journalism major Nelly Hayatghaib has been a member of the College Dems for three years and the immaturity of the attack upset her. “We are going to be more aware of what goes on around us,” she said.

After the police report had been filed, members of the club and the president gathered together to discuss what would be done to prevent another vandalism attempt. Hurtado said that from now on, they will lock all the club belongings in the Student Union lockers. All the club members said they will not let this incident make them go down or stop their regular activities.
