Director of Athletics announced today that Jamie Craighead is the new interim head coach of the Sacramento State women’s basketball team.

Craighead has moved up the coaching ranks quickly at Sac State. She was the top assistant coach during the 2007-2008 season, and was promoted to associate head coach during the 2008-2009 season.

Before joining the Hornets coaching staff Craighead was an assistant coach at Portland State.

Before her time with the Vikings, Craighead spent two seasons as an assistant at Division II powerhouse Seattle Pacific.

Craighead played division I college basketball at the University of Oregon, winning the WNIT during her senior season in 2002.

Craighead finished her career with the Ducks second on the school’s all-time three-pointers made list (182) and seventh in field goal percentage (36.9 percent).

Craighead is known for her knowledge of working the post and is a great recruiter. At Portland State, Craighead coached Kelsey Kahle to Big Sky Conference dominance. Kahle had the best freshman season of anyone in conference history.

Kahle’s season concluded with the Big Sky’s co-outstanding freshman of the year award.

Since joining the Sacramento State coaching staff Craighead has thoroughly improved Sac State’s post play.
