The inaugural Sacramento State 5k fun run will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

“The race is part of a larger effort to promote health and fitness on campus while highlighting the construction of the health and recreation center, the Well, new residence halls and the new bookstore,” said Jason Blessinger, race organizer.

Race participation is free for Sac State students, faculty and staff. Alumni are also encouraged to participate; a registration fee of $20 will apply for alumni.

Registration is available online, but same day registration will take place at 5 p.m. on the day of the event.

The race will begin in Serna Plaza with a speech from Sac State President Alexander Gonzalez and will conclude with live music performances by Loquat, The Botticellis and Justin Farren. Race sponsors will provide free food and drinks for participants.

Participants will also receive free T-shirts. The use of iPods is welcome at this event.

As of Tuesday over 400 people have signed up to participate.
