The Nevada Wolf Pack poured it on the Sacramento State baseball team Friday, winning the first matchup of a four-game series by a margin of 14-5 at Peccole Park.

Nevada’s lead-off hitter Jason Sandoian hit two home runs and two singles in six at-bats as the Wolf Pack improved its conference record to 16-9 (29-19 overall).

The loss puts the Hornets two games below .500 in the WAC, dropping their conference record to 11-13. Sac State’s overall record 20-28.

The Hornets scored their five runs in the first two innings and then failed to put anything on the scoreboard in the last seven frames. The team only had one hit after their second go-around at the plate when senior David Flores singled in the sixth.

Senior Alvaro Orozco took the loss in relief of junior starting pitcher Jose Ramirez (4-2), who allowed five runs while walking four in an inning and a third. Orozco gave up seven runs on seven hits in five and two-third innings.

The Wolf Pack and Hornets will hook up Saturday to play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. at Peccole Park.
