Women’s tennis has no answers against Stanford as Cardinal sweeps Sac State 7-0

The No. 44 Sacramento State women’s tennis team fell to No. 3 Stanford 7-0 Wednesday at Stanford.

In doubles play, Stanford won all three matches but two of them were only by two sets.

Sophomore Katrina Zheltova and freshman Melissa Valenzuela lost in the No. 1 match 8-6 and sophomore Aileen Tsan and junior Anastassia Lyssenko lost the No. 3 match 8-6.

In singles the Hornets took three matches to the distance, losing in tiebreakers. Junior Karina Jarlkaganova had the longest match of the day before losing to No. 68 Carolyn McVeigh 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 (12-10).

The Hornets are now 19-5 on the season and will play No. 5 Cal at 1:30 Sunday in Berkeley.
