Women’s tennis dominates San Francisco 6-1

The No. 48 Sacramento State women’s tennis team defeated San Francisco 6-1 Saturday at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club in Sacramento.

Juniors Karina Jarlkaganova, Joyce Martinez Gutierrez, Luba Schifris and Anastassia Lyssenko and sophomore Katrina Zheltova won singles matches.

“I thought all the girls did a great job today,” Director of Tennis Bill Campbell said.

The Hornets swept doubles play, where one of two tiebreakers on the day took place. Jarlkaganova and Schifris defeated Jenny Sperry and Emma Taylor 9-8 (7-1).

In singles play, Zheltova defeated Jennifer-Lee Heinser 6-4, 2-6, (10-4).

“The tiebreaker between Katrina and her opponent [Heinser] was as good as tennis gets,” Campbell said.

The Hornets play No. 37 St. Mary’s at 1 p.m. at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club and Cal State Bakersfield at 7 p.m. at Spare Time Indoor Tennis Center both on Saturday.
