The No. 48 Sacramento State women’s tennis team defeated No. 37 St. Mary’s 6-1 and Cal State Bakersfield 6-1 Sunday in Sacramento.

Against St. Mary’s, sophomore Katrina Zheltova and juniors Anastassia Lyssenko, Joyce Martinez Gutierrez, Luba Schifris and Karina Jarlkaganova won singles matches for the Hornets. Sac State also won the doubles point.

Schifris sealed the win with the fourth victory when she came back from one set down against Nienke Strijbis to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

“Everyone played their best matches today,” head coach Dima Hrynashka said.

Against Bakersfield, the Hornets were nearly perfect except for a forfeited No. 6 match. They only had five players available for singles due to injuries to Schifris and Zheltova.

Zheltova did participate in doubles, where she teamed with freshman Melissa Valenzuela to win the No. 1 match.

The Hornets are now 19-4 on the season. They will face Stanford at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Stanford.
