The Sacramento State baseball team completed a four-game sweep of the Hawaii-Hilo Vulcans this past weekend. The Hornets beat the Vulcans in a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday.

With the sweep the Hornets improve their record to 19-18 while the Vulcans fall to 13-21 for the season.

The Hornets won the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday by a margin of 6-5 in a scheduled seven-inning contest. Hornet pitcher Jeff Roth (2-1) earned the win in two innings of relief work, as his team scored three runs in the final two innings.

Sac State was victorious in the second game, winning 11-1 behind a strong pitching performance by Trevor York (4-4), who allowed one earned run on eight hits. He pitched all seven frames of the game that was called early because of the 10-run rule. Wes Oberlin hit his eighth home run of the season as he went 2 for 4 on the day with two RBIs.

Gabe Jacobo and David Flores shined at the plate as they both went 3 for 5 in the final game of the series as the Hornets won 8-2, and got their record above .500. Jacobo homered in the bottom of the fifth inning – he now has 12 on the campaign.

The Hornets take a bus ride to the Bay Area to face the San Francisco Dons at 2 p.m. today at Benedetti Diamond.
