The Sacramento State women’s tennis team won both of its matches at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club Saturday.

It was a day of triumph for the Hornets, who swept every match against Weber State en route to a 7-0 victory followed by a 6-1 victory against Portland State.

Freshman Melissa Valenzuela won in her No. 1 singles debut against Weber State while sophomore Katrina Zheltova won 6-1, 6-1 in No.1 singles against Portland State.

The Hornets’ doubleheader began at 9 a.m. and the last match ended around 5 p.m.

“It’s good to get them over with and especially to win them,” Director of Tennis Bill Campbell said. “We’ve got to get ready for another match tomorrow.”

Zheltova, juniors Anastassia Lyssenko, Luba Schifris and Karina Jarlkaganova and sophomore Aileen Tsan had two singles wins apiece.

Junior Joyce Martinez Gutierrez only lost one set all day and Tsan only lost two. The two wins improve the Hornets’ record to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in the Big Sky Conference.

The Hornets face Pacific at 1 p.m. Sunday in Stockton.
