Sac State baseball completes series sweep against Rainbows with 10-6 win

A seven-run fourth inning helped the Sacramento State baseball team beat the Hawaii Rainbows 10-6 Sunday afternoon, earning the Hornets the series sweep. The win improves the Hornets’ conference record to 5-3, 10-14 overall, while the Rainbows drop to 2-6 against WAC opponents and 9-19 overall.

The Hornets trailed 2-0 heading into the fourth inning when sophomore center fielder Tim Wheeler hit a two-run home run, his second of the season. Senior third baseman David Flores capped off the scoring spree when he came up with the bases loaded and doubled in all three of his teammates to give the Hornets a 7-2 lead.

The Hornets never relinquished the lead and freshman pitcher Trevor Paine earned the win in relief of senior starting pitcher Cory Weglin.

The Hornets will try to keep their five-game winning streak alive when the host the UC Davis Aggies at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hornet Field.
