The top seeded Sacramento State women’s tennis team advanced to the finals of the Big Sky Tennis Championship, knocking off Montana in day two of competition.

The Hornets went undefeated in singles and doubles play, as they stayed on track to win their sixth straight Big Sky championship.

Freshman Aileen Tsan said she and her doubles partner sophomore Anastassia Lyssenko played a good match and the team wanted to set a steady pace in the tourney.

“It gives our team more confidence (by) winning the first matches,” Tsan said.

At the start of doubles play, coach Dima Hrynashka said the players were nervous at first, as Montana took early leads in all three matches. Shaking off the early jitters, the Hornets came back and swept doubles play.

“(The players) just started to play their regular game,” Hrynashka said about his team’s comeback victory.

The dominance continued in singles play as well, as the Hornets swept the Grizzlies again in front of the hometown crowd.

Freshman Katrina Zheltova said the fan support made a difference in the match.

“Everybody knows us and everybody was cheering with me,” Zheltova said,” I just got to play my best.”
