Gymnastics set to face Pac-10 squads

The good news; Binta Coleman’s injured ankle is day-to-day and if all goes well she could be back in the Hornets’ rotation for next week’s meet against California and Washington in Berkeley. Well, if that is the good news, here’s the bad.

The No. 14 Huskies (6-3) are coming off a 196.775 to 196.750 upset win over No. 8 Stanford.

The Huskies’ Carly Dockendorf recorded first place finishes in both floor and uneven bars to grab her first-ever all-around title with a score of 39.525.

Jessica Hoffman was the top finisher for Sac State last weekend with an all-around score of 38.600.

The Huskies scored a season-high 49.4 on the vault in the upset, but one aspect that may help the Hornets is that Washington did experience two falls on the beam.

Cal, like Sac State, will be entering the meet after a tough loss to No. 9 Oregon State, 197.025-194.500. The Bears (7-3) were led by My-Lan Dodd and Monique Chang, who recorded two individual first place finishes on the floor and vault.

If Sac State hopes to score an upset, they will need Coleman back and will have to finish their routines without any falls. Last weekend Sac State had a combined five falls on the beam and floor.

The Hornets have been regularly outscoring their opponents in the vault. If they can feed off those results, they might just be able to power through the Pac-10’s elite.
