The Sacramento State men’s tennis team skated by winless Northern Colorado 7-0 in its first conference home game of the year at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club Thursday afternoon. Sac State improved to 8-3 overall and 4-0 in the Big Sky.

The doubles teams took the court first with Sac State winning all three matches to win one point.

Anton Stryhas and Gabriel Loredo won 8-2, continuing their undefeated string at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles the tandem of Ramon Perez and Warwick Foy won 8-3 while Tim Lantin and Hague Van Dillen won easily 8-0 at No. 3.

Sac State continued the domination in singles. All players won in straight sets except No. 4 Warwick Foy, who won 6-0, 6-7 (5), and 10-7 in a super tiebreaker.

Foy came out playing well, but then the momentum shifted at the start of second set when his opponent got on the board.

“I came out on top under the pressure. I like the pressure,” Foy said.

The same could not be said about his opponent, who double faulted the last two points, giving Foy the win.

A half hour before the match Stryhas found out he would be playing his second match of the year at No. 1 due to Xavier Barajas-Smith’s not feeling well.

Stryhas did not feel any pressure, winning 6-0, 6-2, but admitted that playing against poorer competition is bad for his game.

“I’d rather be playing against better competition,” he said. “I think playing against poor competition mostly does damage to my game.”

Barajas-Smith shook off the ill feelings, winning 6-1, 6-2.

No. 6 Tim Lantin coasted 6-2, 6-0 while No. 3 Loredo and No. 5 Perez continued their excellent play with straight set wins.

Montana State is next up for Sac State at 1 p.m. on Friday at Del Oro Racquet Club.
