Superior floor and bar routines weren’t enough against San Jose State as Sacramento State fell 193.475-193.125 on Friday, snapping a 10-meet home winning streak.

Binta Coleman performed exceptionally well on bars, floor and vault, but was unable to overcome the Spartans’ performance. Coleman tied for first on bars (9.775) and floor (9.850) with a sole victory in vault with a score of 9.750.

In the first rotation, the Hornets were behind with a score of 48.350 compared to the Spartans’ 48.375. Sac State came back strong on the bars (48.550), however, it was the beam that ultimately determined the Hornets’ fate.

Sac State lost its lead after two falls on the beam resulted in a team score of 47.400. Stellar performances in the other events were not able to secure a victory because of these falls. San Jose State experienced problems with a fall on the floor, but overcame it with help from Spartan Jennifer Greene (9.800).

Unlike the Hornets, the Spartans did not experience many difficulties on the beam. San Jose State’s Amberly Klein scored a 9.800 helping the team earn a score of 48.700 to win the contest.

Back for the first timr after knee problems, Sac State’s Kimiye Narasaki made a strong contribution with an impressive score of 9.650.

“If we stay on the beam, and score 194-plus in our last four matches, we will have a good chance at making it to regionals,” assistant coach Randy Solorio said.

Their next match is at Oregon State on Friday.
