Students go through many life-changing experiences during their years at Sacramento State. Many people discover their passion in life, make lifetime friendships, find true love and turn 21.

For the 21-year-olds in a city full of hot clubs, bars and lounges, the temptation is high and the pressure is intense. Luckily for those of us who are under the “magic age,” there are new hotspots popping up for all over the capitol city.

For those who crave a social atmosphere and a legal stimulant, hookah bars are definitely the place to be. The newest one I found is called Aladdin Cafe and is located on 2931 Sunrise Blvd in Rancho Cordova.

Moderately priced for the college student on a budget, one hookah can be shared amongst numerous friends for a price of $10-$15, depending on the flavor.

The hookahs are clean and the service is quick, though it can be hard to find a place to sit on a Friday or Saturday night. Then again, people are always willing to “scooch over,” to allow more people to sit.

As a result of the small space and popularity of the place, you are more than likely to strike up conversation with random people around you.

The owner, Adel Parvin, opened up his cafe about four months ago. The establishment provides outdoor heaters during the cold days, because smoking inside the cafe is illegal. These heaters provided more than enough warmth on a chilly evening.

If tobacco isn’t your thing, there are countless dance clubs that cater to 18 and older.

The Pyramid Alehouse on 1029 K Street is a well-maintained, classy dance club which is open every Saturday night to 18 and over with a discount for students who show their One card.

The dress code is strictly enforced, so you won’t find girls exposing too much or guys with pants the size of Texas.

There is, however, a limit on how many people are admitted into the club and according to the manager, they have to turn down about 100 people every Saturday night once they’ve reached that limit. The point is, come before 11p.m.

The price is $10 dollars if you’re a student and $7 if you’re over 21.They also have special 18 and up nights on certain Fridays throughout the month, which vary from month to month. This month’s dates will be the 3rd and 23rd.

Pyramid is always concerned with keeping their underage crowd happy. In fact, their website stated that, “Thomas Kemper Soda samples are offered to those under 21.”

The club plays R&B and hip-hop music provided by the radio station KSFM, better known as 102.5 FM.
