Two new restaurants opened at the Riverfront Center in time for the fall semester at Sacramento State.

Leatherby’s Family Creamery and Gordito Burrito have been added to the Riverfront Center, replacing Le Creperie and Taco Bell.

The two vendors Le Creperie and Taco Bell didn’t renew their contracts with Sac State and Dining Services felt the need to fill the two vacant locations with restaurants, said Stephanie Ewing, spokesperson and registered dietitian with Dining Services.

Dining Services asked for proposals from the restaurants applying for the location on campus and one of the factors in deciding which vendor received the spot was if their menu have affordable prices, Ewing said.

‘??(We’re) always on the look out for students to have affordable food on campus,’?? Ewing said.

The two new restaurants at the Riverfront Center are not completely new to Sac State. Leatherby’s has done catering for athletic events and the campus president’s picnic and Gordito Burrito already has a location in the University Union, Ewing said.

Marie Leatherby, the owner and operator of the Sac State Leatherby’s venue, said when they decided to open a Leatherby’s on campus, administration made them feel welcomed. She added that they liked the fact a lot of the food services on campus were local businesses.

When the location on the Riverfront Center became vacant, Dining Services invited the Leatherby family to apply for the spot.

‘??The timing was really good for us,’?? Leatherby said.

The menu for Gordito Burrito in the Riverfront will remain similar to the location in the Union, while, according to Leatherby, Leatherby’s will serve some of their more popular sundaes, sandwiches and salads.

‘??Ice cream is always a happy thing and can relieve stress for test time,’?? Leatherby said. And for the first time Leatherby’s will serve crepes for students who will miss Le Creperie.

The change in restaurants will not be a huge difference, said freshman business major Thomas McCormick.

‘??As long as it’??s not pricey, it wouldn’t be a big deal,’?? McCormick said.
