To commence this year’s music events on campus Hispanic singer/songwriter Ely Guerra will be performing an acoustic show in the University Union Ballroom, Thursday night at 7:30.

Guerra made her musical debut in 1992 with her self-titled album, “Ely Guerra.” However, her second album, “Pa’ Morirse De Amor,” (To Die for Love) was her ticket to international success.

Guerra’s fan base extends to all parts of the world. She has gained global recognition with her hit single, “Angel De Fuego.”

Proclaimed one of “the most promising performers in the Mexican rock scene,” by Time magazine, Guerra has earned two nominations at MTV’s 2002 Latino Music Awards for “Best Female Artist” and “Best Alternative Artist.”

She has also won the hearts of many students here at Sacramento State.

“She’s got the whole package: stage presence, the voice, and of course, she’s hot,” David Zyski, 19, a sophomore communications major said.

According to the Web site Myspace, “She inherited an athlete’s discipline and commitment which she applies to her music. Her mother’s love for the sensual music of Brazil gave her a lasting passion for Samba and Bossa Nova.”
