Cover yourself in style
December 7, 2006
The trees are almost bare, and there’s definitely a noticeable bite in the air. These are signs that winter is just around the corner. It’s time to start bundling up to keep warm, so why not stay warm in style?
Outerwear is an important part of every wardrobe, but with trends changing every season, it can be hard to find the right look. You probably have your own style, so it’s important to find the right look to fit your personality.
It’s easy to get lost with the huge selections offered in department stores. Selections include coats and jackets with high-waisted belts, trench coats, bomber jackets, fur coats and fur-trimmed coats (most of which are faux-fur).
For students on a budget, Old Navy is a good start. It has a selection of outerwear ranging from about $38 to $68. “Bomber jackets with faux-fur collars are popular,” said Elise Smith, an Old Navy full-time sales associate in Elk Grove.
Smith also said that military-style jackets and fur-trimmed vests are in style. The most common colors this season are browns and creams.
For those who have money to spare, bebe has a collection ranging from casual to sophisticated starting at $260. Hailey Hooper, a sales lead for bebe in Arden Fair Mall, said the biggest outerwear trends are fur coats and wool coats with fur on the collar. She also recommended long trench-style coats with belts. Hooper said pastels in blues and pinks are the colors for this winter.
An article written by Theresa Howard in USA Today said, “High-tech fabrics, tailoring, and trim such as belts and fur have given traditional down-filled outerwear a makeover, streamlining the shape while retaining the warmth.”
So remember, if you’re looking to cover your body in style, the hottest things this year are fur (or faux-fur) and belts. Add this on to the jacket that reflects your personality and you are set to stay warm in style.
