Eagles duo dominant in victory

Ball security was not a big issue for Sacramento State in their game against No. 14 Eastern Washington. After committing six turnovers in last week’s game against Idaho State, the Hornet offense managed to hold onto the ball. It was the defense that couldn’t hold Eagles wide receiver Eric Kimble and quarterback Erik Meyer. “It was a good game for the offense, but we didn’t play to our potential,” said Kimble, who caught 10 passes for 189 yards. “Most teams probably can’t see it, but from an individual and team perspective, we still have goals.”With only minutes off the clock in the first quarter, Eagles receiver Craig McIntyer caught a 14-yard pass from Meyer and ran it in for the first touchdown. The Eagles went on to score two more times in the first quarter alone, with another passing score and a 39-yard field goal. In the second half, Meyer and Kimble connected on an 18-yard pass for a touchdown and then again for a 14-yard completion and a 33-yard slant route, which slashed the Hornets’ comeback hopes. “This was definitely one of my best games, but I can’t take all the credit. As a group the quarterbacks and receivers played a good game,” Meyer said. Meyer threw for a career-high 470 yards and three touchdowns.”They put those kinds of points on everybody. I’m glad it’s the last time I have to see Eric Meyer and Erik Kimble,” said head coach Steve Mooshagian after the loss. Both Meyers and Kimble are potential Payton Award winners. The award is given to the most outstanding player in Division I-AA. ?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”?”Krystina Uribe can be reached at [email protected]
