For Sacramento State’s volleyball head coach Debby Colberg’s birthday the team decided to continue the winning tradition and dominated the Bucknell Bison on Sunday afternoon.

It was the 757th win of Colberg’s career.

After closing out the third game against Idaho State on Saturday, freshman Rose Burke would tag-out senior starter Natalie Melcher. Burke has been steadily building her confidence after a rough start to the season in which she went 1-5 as the starter before Melcher took over.

Against an undersized Bucknell team the Hornets ran the boards. In the second game Sac State tallied seven aces to bury the Bison 30-12 with a .484 hitting percentage. Taking advantage of the middle, Burke continuously set up 6-foot-1 middle hitter Lindsay Haupt for a quick kill into the Bison’s midcourt. Haupt had eight kills, one solo block and one block assist while hitting .500.

Several Bison fans were at the Hornets Nest to watch the game as four players on the east coast time are originally from California.

Heading into Wednesday’s Causeway Classic match against UC Davis, Sac State is 14-7 for the season and has won 13 of the last 15 matches. While the Aggies recently broke a month-long losing streak against Cal State Northridge on Saturday and are 3-16 for the season. Sacramento State leads the series 45-16.
