Atlee Hubbard and the Sacramento State volleyball team stung the Montana Grizzlies in three straight games on Saturday night in the Hornets Nest.

After coming off her first conference match of the season against Montana State on Thursday night, the Hubbard returned in prime form to put up a double-double with 14 kills, 18 digs and three block assists while hitting .237 against the Grizzlies.

“They were no problem last year,” the 6-foot-1 junior said “It was pretty much the same level of competition tonight.”

Hubbard also served up two aces and scored the match point against a hesitant Montana team.

This was the strongest performance Hornet fans have seen from coach Debby Colberg’s team this season with three players hitting into the double digits with kills and digs while amassing 20 team blocks in three short games.

“I liked the consistency and the intensity better tonight,” says Colberg.

The only intensity that the Grizzlies could muster on their side of the net came from junior outside hitter Claudie Houle. Houle gave no heed to the rules of gravity while she rose well over the net to pound in 13 kills for Montana and tacked on 14 digs.

This win has given the Hornets 5 straight wins in the Nest meanwhile improving to 10-6 for the season and 2-0 in the Big Sky.

The Grizzlies are now 10-6 for the season and 0-2 in conference play. The two teams will face each other again at the West Auxiliary Gym in Missoula, Mont. on October 22.
