Alias 3.3: Reunion

Lauren Robeson

On the Oct. 12 episode of “Alias,” Sydney and Lauren (a.k.a.Mrs. Vaughn) retreated back to their high school personalities whenthey fought over Vaughn (Michael Vartan). A “Project Medusa” wassought by Sark (David Anders) and destroyed by Sydney and Vaughn inthe space of one episode, which would almost make this a wastedhour, intercut with scenes of infuriating sexual tension.Meanwhile, Jack (Victor Garber) once again saved his daughter’s(Sydney) ass within the CIA by damaging the footage of hermurdering Sark’s father, a murder that, coincidentally enough, Mrs.Vaughn was investigating.

I doubt that the Medusa idea is completely dead, based onseveral past “Alias” plot twists. But even so, “Reunion” seemedlike a wasted hour. And despite creator JJ Abrams’ claims that Mrs.Vaughn would be impossible to hate – well, I hate her. Especiallywhen she’s claiming that our heroine is arrogant and horrible. Allin all, this episode just seemed like filler leading up to theinevitable romantic reunion of Sydney and Vaughn – which I’mthinking will most likely happen in November or February, as thoseare two of the pivotal sweeps months. I’m hoping for theformer.
