Noeh Nazareno

Yoga, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the StarshipNoeh. His continuing mission, to explore strange, new things. Toseek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where hisbody has not gone before.

So perhaps I am not the best voice to speak out on a Yogaworkout DVD. But I can say it’s a heck of a workout and a lot offun to watch.

Kristin McGee, world-renowned yoga instructor who was alsofeatured on HBO’s “Sex and the City,” leads three other fellow yogias we, the viewers. follow along on a strenuous workout. Limbs willbend under presumably little pressure, but depend on the level ofdifficulty we choose to embark on. Kristin’s three assistants gofrom beginning, intermediate and advanced skills, seeming tocontort barely, somewhat, or “oh my God, that’s physicallypossible?”

OK, that might be going a bit overboard, but I sure felt thatway. I’m not really in great shape, but “MTV Power Yoga” gave me agood proper sweat. Doing things with my body and limbs I neverthought I could do, plus the ambitious pilates workout at the closeof the program, made it time well spent for me. It’s hip, it’scool, and the title doesn’t end with the word “steel.”

On that corny note, the music, by up-and-coming Blue Six, isalright for those who like techno-Muzak. It reminds me of the musicfrom that Mitsubishi Eclipse commercial where the woman dances likea robot in the car while her man is driving. But thank goodness isisn’t.

Like a lot of workout DVDs these days, there’s an “instructoronly” track, for those who prefer doing their yoga to Beyonce’s”Crazy in Love” or something. There’s profiles on the participantson the DVD (which is nice, considering they’re all prettyattractive), as well as breakdowns and video clips for the moreparticular exercises. And if you didn’t get enough of Blue Sixduring the workout, you can watch their music video for “Music andWine.” If you ask me, I think you’ll need something stronger than aMerlot to get that music out of your mind.

There’s also a commercial for which MTV shamelessly plugs theirother programming and DVDs, but considering how bad the music videois, it’s actually quite a relief.

“MTV Power Yoga” is a great workout, in my opinion. And I did doit all the way, using the beginner’s moves (hey, if I did itadvanced like the one male in the group on the video, I’d beteaching yoga, not watching yoga DVDs). I could’ve emphasized howattractive the people on the program are, but I decided toreallocate my callousness to the cocky tone of this review. Sobasically, if you want a workout with some fine people to feastyour eyes on, go get this disc at your local Best Buy.
