Campus eyes trimester system

CSUS may be change its calendar to a “modified trimester system” by 2005, according to a proposal by Larry D. Glasmire, the Director of Special Programs and Enrollment Analysis.

The new system would extend the summer session to 14 weeks, eliminating the shorter six- to eight-week sessions. It would also eliminate the winter intersession, cut the winter break by two weeks and move spring break to the middle week of the spring semester, regardless of the dates of Easter or Passover celebrations.

Glasmire said that this system would help accommodate enrollment growth and expand summer offerings to students.

The Faculty Senate will discuss the proposal and make a recommendation to incoming president Alex Gonzalez by next December. Gonzalez holds the final say on the calendar.
