CMS hearing scheduled for Thursday

The Joint Legislative Audit Committee of California’s State Senate and State Assembly will hold a public hearing on Thursday to discuss a report from the California State Auditor concerning the Common Management System, a managerial computer network being employed throughout the California State University system.

Chancellor Charles Reed, along with other members of the CSU administration, will testify against the audit’s claims, which were released March 11, of an over budget $662 million price tag.

California Faculty Association, California State Employee’s Association and CSU representatives are anticipated to testify as well.

Other issues to be raised at the hearing will include the State auditor’s allegations of poor planning for implementation, lack of controls on spending and the possible conflicts of interest involving the CSU’s Chief Technology Officer and one other senior CSU executive.

The audit’s claims have drawn intense criticism of the CSU administration by state legislators, the news media, the CFA and the staff’s unions of the CSU.

The hearing is open to the public and will be held at the conclusion of the morning session of the legislature, which will likely end at approximately 11 a.m., in Room 437 of the State Capitol building.
