Library Week begins today

Started backin 1958 to celebrate and recognize the importance of thenation?s libraries and librarians in our society, Library Week promotes the support and use of libraries in our community.

Library Week, which is celebrated every April, runsfrom April 15-19 at Sacramento State. For this yearscelebration there will be poetryreadings and music performances daily from 11-1 p.m,on the libraries first floor. There will a facultyspeaker series every day from 4-6 p.m. in the CSUSLibrary Conference Room, fifth floor.

The four faculty speakers scheduled for the events are:

Professor of Counselor Education, Lynn Wilcox who willbe speaking on Monday April15. The lecture is titled “Women and the Holy Qur?an: A Sufiperspective.”

Professor of Education Administration and PolicyStudies, Francisco Reveles will present Encuentros-Hombre a Hombre, a lecture ona series of interviews done with various Latino rolemodels, giving light to the various struggles thatthey faced and how they came to survive thesestruggles. This event is scheduled for Tuesday.

Professor of Astronomy and Physics, Randy Phelps,recipient of the President?s Award for Research andCreativity in 2001/2002, will present “StarClusters in Chile” and will be a guestspeaker at the Friends annual meeting on WednesdayWednesday.

Professor of Environmental Studies, Angus Wright willtalk about the migration of the landless people inBrazil, as discussed in his book, “From Despair to Hope: Brazil?s Landless Movement forAgrarian Reform,” that is yet to be published this event is scheduled for Thursday.

Professor of Ethnic Studies, Wayne Maeda will give a lecture titled: “Changing Dreams and Treasured Memories: A story ofJapanese Americans in the Sacramento Region” on Friday,Friday.

On Thursday the library will be hosting an outdoor bookstore from 10a.m. to 3 p.m. in the library breeze-way.
