International fitness pro Pepper Von will speak at Sacramento State Saturday with a variety of health professionals and consumers at a symposium that can help with weight management, nutrition and obesity.

The symposium, “Don’t Weight: Teaming up for Lighter Living,” will take place in the University Union Ballroom and Redwood Room from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will include health screenings, body composition testing, dietary assessments and blood pressure and blood sugar checks.

Von is a master trainer for the World Aerobic Kickboxing Association and has won many awards for his contributions to fitness and health. He tours the United States as a motivational speaker for high schoolers and other audiences.

Other speakers include Dr. Tom Hopkins, a medical reporter for KCRA Channel 3 specializing in weight management, nutrition and obesity; and Carolyn Van Couwenberghe, a nursing professor at Sac State and faculty of record for the pharmacology courses, who has personally lost weight through motivation.

Sixteen health professionals will discuss a wide range of topics concerning weight, health risks, diabetes, genetics, sleep disorders and community resources.

Over $10,000 in prizes will be given away to those attending, and those who participate in the student sponsorship program will be entered into a drawing to win a one-week trip for two to Canyon Ranch Health Resort and Spa in Tuscon, Ariz.

Other prizes include meals, spa services, bookstore gift certificates, a Peak Adventure trip, bike tune-ups, Raley’s and Bel Air gift certificates, floor pillows and tanning sessions

Tickets for the symposium cost $15 to $75 and lunch will be included. For tickets call (916) 278-4969 or visit www.hhs.csus.edu/dontweight.
