Canela, a new R&B artist, will release her first album in stores on April 24.

“Sponsor (I Need, I Need, I Need)” is Canela’s first radio track, where she sings about finding someone who will treat her right. Romantic ballads like “Everything” are also found on Canela’s CD. She also sings pop and R&B songs such as “It Just Feels Right” and “One Day.”

Canela worked with songwriter-producer Rodney Jerkins with many of her songs. Jerkins has worked with Jennifer Lopez, Whitney Houston, Brandy and Britney Spears, among others.

Her roots in singing started when she was a child. Canela’s mother was a backup singer for Diana Ross and toured with her for most of Canela’s childhood.

After her mother married a Dutch man, Canela moved to Holland. Canela described Holland as a place of many races and nationalities. She claims that her musical understanding expanded due to the multicultural atmosphere of Holland. When Canela went to clubs, she heard music that inspired her to be a singer.

On her Web site, Canela said, “At 18 I could go to clubs, and that experience exposed me to reggae, house, techno? All these sounds made me want to mix it up with my own music.”
