Bojangles’, a popular nightclub located at the south end of Sacramento State campus, caught on fire Wednesday at approximately 6 p.m.

Sacramento Fire Department received several calls of heavy smoke coming from the rooftop of the nightclub at 7042 Folsom Blvd. Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after calls were made.

“There was a lot of smoke damage that [went] throughout the building,” said Jim Green, County Chief of the Sacramento Fire Department. “We had to ventilate the roof area to get the smoke out, so that we could let the firefighters come in and force entry to get to the fire.”

Upon entry into the building, firefighters learned that the fire was confined mostly to the kitchen area and did not reach the roof.

“We really don’t know the cause (of the fire) yet at this time,” said Green. According to fire officials, arson will be investigated.

At the time of the fire, the nightclub was closed and there were no people in the building.

The nightclub will be closed for at least a two weeks due to fire and smoke damage. Assessment of damage is unknown pending further investigation.

Bojangles’ owner was unavailable for comment.
