Volleyball continues success at home

Coming off a streak of losses on the road, the Sac State volleyball team found their footing Tuesday night as they defeated San Jose State 3-0 (15-12, 15-9, 15-13 in the Hornet Gym..

With the victory, Sac State improved its record to 8-7, including a 4-1 mark at home.

Sophomore Jayme Wright recorded a team high 25 digs in the game while juniors Tasman Dwyer and Kelly Voeltz recorded eight and seven blocks respectively. In game one the Hornets overcame deficits of 6-0 and 10-5 as Captain Sarah Chlebana connected on eight of her 15 kills to lead the comeback.

“We?re becoming more comfortable and consistent,” Dwyer said, “Our passing is coming along and our middle is coming along too.”

In game two, Sac State came out with a burst of energy, paced by the performances of Dwyer and Wright who led the charge of eight hornets who recorded a kill.

Game three featured six lead changes and with the score tied at 13-13, Sac State freshman Olivia Thomas served two-straight aces to close the game and the match.

“We play much better at home because of the fan support, but the true test will be next week on the road,” Dwyer said.

The Hornets host Eastern Washington on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 7.p.m. and Portland State on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 1.p.m.
