Sac State Women’s volleyball team kept alive their four match winning streak when they buried the Eagles of Eastern Washington, Thursday night in Hornet Gym.

With the win, the Hornets improved to 9-7 and 2-1 in the Big Sky conference.

Sac State took the lead 2-1 in game one, but the Eagle’s rattled off 13 unanswered points to take a 14-2 lead and finished off the Hornets 15-5.

“We were slow getting started and our serving was ridiculous,” Coach Debby Colberg said. In game two the Hornets fought their way back as they exchanged leads with the Eagles. With the score tied at 14-14, an ace by Olivia Thomas and an error made by the Eagle’s Angie Hall, gave Sac State the game 16-14.

The Hornets quickly jumped to a 7-0 lead in game three and proceeded to crush the Eagles15-5. In game four, the Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Sac State stole the game with seven unanswered points to take command with a 7-2 lead. The team would keep their command as Sophomore Jayme Wright recorded seven kills and captain Sarah Chlebana recorded eight kills to take game four 15-11.

“Sarah did a great job, she was playing on a sprained ankle and we were concerned about that,” Colberg said. The Hornets hit .233 for the match and recorded 16.0 team blocks including a match-high seven by junior Tasman Dwyer.

“Tas put on a blocking clinic out there,” Chlebana said.

The Hornets continue their schedule at home as they welcome Portland State on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 1 p.m. in Hornet Gym.
