Thursday, September 7, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the College of Health and Human Services will be holding a fundraiser to celebrate the opening of their Life center at the newly remodeled Julia Morgan House and Gardens.

The fundraiser, which will cost $50.00 per person, offers food, wine testing, a silent auction as well as a chance to tour the newly restored Morgan House.

The house, built in 1927 by renowned architect Julia Morgan, was acquired by the CSUS Foundation in 1966 when its owner, Dr. Charles Goethe died. The Morgan House has since been placed in the National Register of Historic Places, and recently underwent a 1.7 million-dollar renovation.

The proceeds of the fundraiser will benefit the Life Center, which offers several programs for the elderly including individualized home fitness activities, on-site group fitness and health education classes. The Life Center is operated by the University Health, Physical Education, Nursing and Physical Therapy programs. Students involved in these departments can work in the Life center as part of an internship.

“We felt it was a service needed in the community,” Anita Watson said, a professor of nursing and development officer for the Department of Health and Human Services.

The Julia Morgan House is located at 3731 T Street.
