Free your mind and spirit

Most of us wander the campus haggardly from class to class. In the midst of our daily grind we sometimes forget how to relax. Sacramento State sympathizes, they really do. That is why the CSUS Meditation Retreat Club is offering free Mantra mediation classes on Monday nights at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. in Alpine Hall.

The Mantra mediation, taught on Monday nights, is unlike other mediations and Yoga processes because the mantra style of meditation is very easy and can be done by everyone.

Jeremy Turner, an undecided major, has been a part of the mediation club for the past two years. He encourages everyone to come to at least one class and experience the soulful music and chanting they’ll provide.

“We’re hoping for a good outcome (of students) since we’re only having the classes for at least the next month” Turner said, “but even if one student comes to a class, it’s still successful.”

Jagannath Dasi, a visitor from Hawaii, will be conducting the first Mantra class. “I am here offering free mediation classes because I think it is important for people to know the purpose of their existence and find happiness in their quest for fulfillment,” he said.

Students who are stressed out or feel out of sync with themselves are encouraged to attend at least one mediation class.

“Anyone can join and hey, it’s free,” Turner said.
