A free concert featuring modern rock of The Brian Cline Band will be held at noon on Wednesday in Joe Serna Plaza.

The Brian Cline Band plays positive, uplifting, ’60s style music, but with a modern day sound. The band has been compared to artists such as Matchbox 20, Vertical Horizon and The Counting Crowes.

Dean Sorensen, UNIQUE program advisor, believes that the band will be well-received by students.

“We booked them because of their outstanding musicianship, acoustic influence, and sense of fun,” he said.

The band is very excited about playing at Sacramento State.

“We’re totally psyched,” said band member, Andrew Lion. “We are really looking forward to playing in Sacramento.”

The Brian Cline Band is a four person group, although Brian Cline started out solo when he released his first album, “Hold the Keys” in 1997. Tracks from that album were played on such shows as “Another World,” “Guiding Light,” and “Passions.”

The album, “Hold the Keys” was then re-released on a national level in February, earlier this year. The band is beginning to develop a bigger following now that they are beginning to receive national radio play.

New songs from an album due out next spring will be played at the show.

UNIQUE will also feature Afro-Cuban drum and dance group, Ebo Okok?n at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday as part of the cultural affairs series.

“Our Thursday daytime events are part of our ongoing “Cultural Affairs” series, designed to increase the appreciation of, understanding of, and respect for various cultures,” Sorensen said.

The series put on by UNIQUE has been financially supported by A.S.I. for the past 12 years.
