‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ wins
November 15, 2022
Multimedia editor Kris Hall and multimedia reporter Will Smith-Moore have trained at The Well all semester for the stamina to walk at an above average pace across campus, reach every student and get their vote for movie of the year.
Time is running out and each student has only a brief moment to report their favorite movie.
As much as we love Tom Holland, he was only in 2022's "uncharted" an easily forgettable film.
Follow along with Kris and Will on their trek to find the number one movie of 2022.

Wakanda forever! The State Hornet’s Movie of the Year for 2022 has come to an end with Marvel’s latest installment of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” voted as the winner.
Out of 32 movies, ranging from animated, horror, superhero films and comedy, Wakanda Forever crushed every competitor. Wakanda Forever defeated “The Secrets of Dumbledore,” “The Batman,” “Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness” and “Top Gun: Maverick.”
Directed by Sacramento State’s alumnus Ryan Coogler, Wakanda Forever deals with loss and how the protagonist overcomes it.
The film carries on Chadwick Boseman’s legacy as the Black Panther by introducing his successor and many students voted for Wakanda Forever because of Boseman’s impact in the film.
The film also introduces K’uk’ulkan — named the feathered serpent god by his people and Namor by his enemies. He is the ruler of Talokan, an underwater civilization similar to Atlantis.
Coogler did a great job bringing Hispanic representation to Wakanda Forever and it’s a great movie for everyone to enjoy.
Movie of the Year was a close race for most of the films, many of them only winning by few votes. Some students who came to The State Hornet’s tabling last week voiced outrage toward “Everything Everywhere All at Once” not being in the top two.
Others had not seen either film but appreciated the first “Black Panther” and “Top Gun” movies.
Voting was consistent during each day and some students even came up to the booth to say they were following along with the results on social media.
This year had movies in almost every genre, making the results more diverse each week, even when other Marvel films were present. Other contenders were “Doctor Strange: in the Multiverse of Madness” and “Thor: Love and Thunder.”
Until next time! “Líik'ik Talokan!”
