With summer just around the corner and temperatures warming up, many Sacramentans and college students are looking for some fun to bask in the sun.

During the months of May through July, the Cesar Chavez Park in downtown Sacramento comes alive with a kaleidoscope of musical performances from artists hailing from all around the Sacramento region and beyond.

This year’s Concerts in the Park lineup includes the likes of Zugh, Sol Peligro, The Color Wild and DJ Rated R, all of whom have performed at Sac State in the past.

The nine-piece Latin-reggae Sol Peligro will join DJ Eddie Z, local electronic band Lucid and Los Angeles-based Rituals of Mine to headline the first Friday of the event on May 5.

For some Sacramentans, the free festival has served as a place for lunch breaks with food chosen from a variety of famous local food trucks, while testing out their luck with prizes and giveaways from organizations like KCRA.

Jerel Labson, a recent Sac State graduate and leader of Radio 94.7’s promotional operations, said he and his team are gearing up for festival’s return as well.

“This summer I feel like it’s going to be a good turnout. Every year it gets bigger and bigger with artists,” Labson said. “It’s great for the community.”

The 26th Concerts in the Park series will be held every Friday starting May 5 until July 21.
