CFA holds forum for students

The California Faculty Association put on a forum to answer student questions and receive student involvement about the strike being held in April.

The CFA held the forum at various times on Feb. 17 to ensure students would be able to attend and ask questions.

Margarita Berta-Avila, vice president of the CFA, said they want to make sure that student conditions are met even though classes will be canceled for the strike.

Berta-Avila also said they have been reaching out to professors who might still be holding classes on those days to have them move their test and due dates for assignments.

Cecil Canton, CFA associate vice president of Affirmative Action, said they want to give the chancellor every chance they can to negotiate.

“We’re not trying to hurt students. The chancellor is hurting students by not working with faculty,” Canton said. “Hopefully this can be a learning experience to us all.”

Berta-Avila said professors are having to work other jobs to make dues, and because of this they, aren’t as available to students. Students then are not getting their money’s worth, and they are not supported as they should be.

“Doing nothing means nothing changes,” Canton said.
